Wellbeing

A key indicator of urban quality of life is residents' mental and physical well-being. Loneliness and isolation are growing issues worldwide. In Ramsgate, our interventions and design prioritise community trust-building that would help enhance neighbourhood wellbeing.

Wilfred Road, March 2025

We took over a 'dead' former car park space opposite The Flying Horse Pub. On a sunny afternoon we bought in some artwork, music, and decor and spoke to passers-by. With the help of volunteers from the local Ellington Park and from our community group 'Happy Mondays', we created a permanent mural signposting passers-by to the park.

LIFE, Guildford Lawn, May 2025

Woven recycled plastic crafted during a Happy Mondays session using bubble wrap from a nearby awning company. The fencing secures a derelict site unused for over 10 years. This activation sparked a lot of buzz among passing cars & the community across ages. A resident even brought us drinks during setup. It sparked conversations about the importance of maintaining spaces, bringing life to prolonged dead spaces. One passerby shouted:"It's about time Ramsgate got some decent art; it's all in Margate!"

High Street, July 2025

Permanent artwork for some derelict hoarding that has protected a disused site for over 15 years. This site is next to a community centre run by Sammy, who works hard to run the Centre and promote it for hire. Sammy loves Blue Bells, so we gave her some in this artwork. Since then, Sammy has offered use of the hall to our group, and we have helped her secure more bookings.

St Laurence Church Hall, Sep 2025

This site was overgrown and needed some love. We approached the vicar, introduced the XID work & our Happy Mondays volunteers. We cleared the garden within a month & created a permanent mosaic artwork. During our clean-up sessions, we met longtime Ramsgate residents who offered us tea and plants to spruce up the garden. One of our volunteers used to attend the hall when it was a homeless shelter 10 years ago; he welcomed the opportunity to be able to give back. The church has now resumed functioning as a homeless shelter and has offered us free use of the hall.
